The Wild Silence by Raynor Winn

It was the land, the earth, the deep humming background to my very being’

In 2016, days before they were unjustly evicted from their home, Raynor Winn was told her husband Moth was dying.

Instead of giving up they embarked on a life-changing journey: walking the 630-mile South West Coast Path, living by their wits, determination and love of nature.

But all journeys must end and when the couple return to civilisation they find that four walls feel like a prison, cutting them off from the sea and sky that sustained them – that had saved Moth’s life.

So when the chance to rewild an old Cornish farm comes their way, they grasp it, hoping they’ll not only reconnect with the natural world but also find themselves once again on its healing path . . .

MY THOUGHTS

Having read and loved The Salt Path i wanted to read this to see where Raynor and Moth ended up after the ending of The Salt Path and i loved it for the majority. The book is split into 4 sections and the first three i flew through but for some reason i struggled with the fourth section of the book which is where they talk about doing a walking trail in Iceland. I was rooting for everything to work out for them throughout the book and am glad that it does. I really loved the first couple of sections of the book but found the struggle through the last part and found myself not wanting to bother picking it up turning to magazines instead but i pushed myself as i enjoyed the rest of the book and found that once i got into the last bit it didn’t take me as long to finish. Overall if you enjoyed The Salt Path i think you will enjoy this as it takes you through all of that and Raynor even writes that book in this one.
